Environmental Health
& Safety
At CAN-AK, safety is not something we do in addition to executing our projects, it’s built into how we do our everyday work. Zero injuries are our goal, anything other than zero is unacceptable. The journey to zero involves not only management leadership, but also requires that everyone in the company looks out for each other.
CAN-AK understands the strict requirements associated with working on today’s Industrial Sites. In addition to comprehensive safety procedures and policies, CAN-AK maintains an occupational health and safety accreditation in the Certificate of Recognition program (COR). COR program verifies a fully implemented safety & health program which meets national standards.
Joint Health & Safety Committees
CAN-AK’s JHSC was developed in an effort to raise awareness, recognize hazards, and work collaboratively to find ways to mitigate risks. JHSC members focus on injury and incident prevention through meetings, investigations, and inspections to strengthen the health and safety culture.

Quality Assurance &
Quality Control Program
Industrial clients have strict QA/QC requirements when executing projects on their sites or within our shop.
As a result, CAN-AK has developed a comprehensive QA/QC program. It all starts within our shop prior to mobilization through:
- Adhering/Maintaining CAN-AK’s QMS system and manual
- Adhering to relevant certifications, codes, and standards
- Equipment, hose, fittings, vehicle, and job-trailer pre- and post-inspection & testing
- Cleaning of equipment, hose, and fittings pre- & post-job
- Calibrations of equipment
- Preventative and corrective maintenance program
Project Planning
Engineering Process
Every new project goes through a rigorous Project Planning/Engineering Process. Some key components include:
- Thorough Project Walk down
- Comprehensive Project Execution Plan
- Detailed Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Inspection Test Plan (ITP)
- Management of Change Program

Project Proposal
Projects are identified & discussed with the CAN-AK Account Manager.
The CAN-AK Account Manager reviews proposed scope with CAN-AK Operations Team (Operations, Engineering, QA/QC & HSE).
A Project Proposal is generated and submitted to client for review & approval. A proposal follow-up meeting is scheduled with the Client and CAN-AK Account & Operations Manager to discuss submitted proposal.
Project Walkdown
Once the project has been given the green light to proceed, the project is handed over to the CAN-AK Operations Team for execution.
A CAN-AK Project Manager (PM) is assigned to the project and is mobilized to the client site. A detailed walkdown of the project(s) is performed with the client to review the scope, schedule, site requirements, etc.
Project Engineering Package
Based on the Project requirements identified at the project walkdown. The CAN-AK PM, Engineering, HSE and Operations Team work together to develop:
* Bill of Materials
* Execution Plan (including detailed marked up drawings showing the flushing paths, etc.)
* Inspection Test Plan (ITP)
* Job Hazard Assessment (JHA)
* Client-Specific documents are sent to the client for review and approval prior to the start of the project.
Project Kick-Off Meeting
To ensure CAN-AK and the client are ready prior to mobilization to site, CAN-AK Operations Manager will set up a Project Kick-Off meeting with all client personnel and internal departments to review scope, schedule, logistics, QA/QC, HSE, support requirements, etc.
Minutes of the meeting with a list of decisions, outstanding actions and key personnel contact information are circulated following the meeting to all parties.
Project Support & Management of Change
CAN-AK home office team, including Operations, Engineering, HSE, QA/QC, Inventory & Procurement, Accounting and Administration will support the project throughout its lifecycle.
CAN-AK’s Management of Change process ensures the baseline budget & schedule are adhered to, but when either party identifies changes, we will quantify them and receive formal approvals before starting the work. Our key focus is to mitigate change if possible and ensure NO surprises.
